Welcome to Himalayan Yoga Association

Yoga Teacher Training in Rishikesh | Authentic Yoga School

We started Himalayan Yoga Association (aka Himalayan Yog Ashram) back in 2012, in Upper Tapovan, Rishikesh, and we're still one of the more established yoga schools in the area. Over the last decade-plus we've trained 3,000+ certified yoga teachers from more than 40 countries — not bad for a small ashram school, honestly. We're a Registered Yoga School (RYS 200 & RYS 300) with Yoga Alliance, and our senior teachers hold E-RYT 500 and YACEP® credentials, each with somewhere between 10 and 20+ years of teaching under their belt.

"Welcome on the journey of self-cultivation. Our passion for the yogic path is in our nature — we invite everyone who is willing to reconnect within and to see themselves in totality."

We run 100, 200 and 300-hour yoga teacher training in Rishikesh through the year, plus Yoga & Meditation Retreats, Ashram Stay, Ayurvedic detox programs, and a few customised retreats we put together depending on the season. Every course is written and taught by our own resident teachers — nothing outsourced — and we tweak the curriculum most years to keep it in line with current Yoga Alliance standards.

Aim of Himalayan Yoga Association

Our mission's pretty simple, really: help people transform from within using practical tools that actually work, not just theory. A happy, balanced individual is what makes a happy, healthy society — it starts there, not the other way round.

A peaceful, compassionate heart spreads peace to everyone around it. And to get through life's harder moments, you need some kind of systematic way of training the mind — a healthy body, a calm mind, a happy heart. That's really what we're after here.

What Will You Learn?

We take a pretty holistic approach to spiritual growth here. As a yoga school in Rishikesh, our teacher training is built to help you reach an actually balanced, healthy life — not just pick up a few new poses. Learning the Himalayan tradition of yoga starts with learning how to live in balance, really.

Yoga gives you the tools to transform, slowly, into more of a spiritual being — a kind of awareness that brings happiness, inner peace, and an ongoing exploration of that infinite space inside you.

We like to call it the science of devotion — understanding, practising and passing on a lineage of teachings that's been handed down through generations of Himalayan yogis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, we are. We're a Registered Yoga School (RYS 200 and RYS 300) with Yoga Alliance USA, and our senior teachers carry E-RYT 500 and YACEP® credentials. Once you finish our 100, 200 or 300-hour course, you're eligible to register with Yoga Alliance yourself as an RYT 200 or RYT 300 teacher.

Not really. For the 100 and 200-hour courses, a basic, fairly regular yoga practice is enough to get started. The 300-hour course is the one exception — you'll need a completed 200-hour YTT certificate first, either from us or from any other Yoga Alliance registered school.

Your fees cover shared accommodation, two Ayurvedic meals a day, study materials, all the yoga and philosophy sessions, weekend excursions along the Ganges, and your Yoga Alliance certificate once you've completed the course.

Honestly, any time works — we run courses all year. September through April has the most comfortable weather if that matters to you, though a fair few students actually prefer the monsoon months (July–August) since it's quieter and cooler, good for going deeper into practice.

Yes. Our campus in Upper Tapovan has on-site staff and gender-appropriate shared rooms, and honestly the community atmosphere does a lot of the work here. A good chunk of our 3,000+ alumni came as solo travellers — plenty of them women, from more than 40 countries.

A partial advance holds your seat and goes straight into course prep, so it's generally not refundable. Best to message our team directly through the enquiry form or WhatsApp before you book, just to confirm the current policy and check if date changes are possible.
